Malthael

Death is beyond your reach.

Behind the carving

About this piece

Confession: I've never played Diablo. But I love Heroes of the Storm, and Malthael is one of my favorite characters to play there. To me, he encapsulates the grim reaper aesthetic perfectly, and that makes him spooky! So no one can complain that I never carve spooky jack-o-lanterns.

Carving notes

You may notice a slight brightness imbalance on his right side. Before I finished the carving, the rind of the pumpkin there began to turn to mush, and I'm not sure why. Apparently mush lets more light through.

Carving tips

The stencil has a little more detail than I chose to include. Knowing what can be omitted from an image is a skill that comes with experience.
